In Luke 14:25-30, we read Jesus’ parable about counting the cost of discipleship. He said, “Which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down FIRST and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?”
My friend, salvation is free, but serving God will cost you everything! Don’t be intimidated by that, though, because it’s quite like trading pennies for bars of gold. It’s more than worth the cost!
This month, I encourage you to take some time to really think about your relationship with Jesus Christ. I encourage you to build a tower of faith that will stand as a testament to the grace and favor of God. It’s going to cost you something, and that’s okay. Maybe it will cost you hitting your snooze button in the mornings so you can seek His face before you start the activities of your day. Maybe it will cost you missing that football game after church to spend quality time in prayer. Make a plan to spend more quality time with God. The cost will be well worth the intimacy it purchases!
“An experience of God that costs nothing does nothing and is worth nothing.” Leonard Ravenhill
Side Note: I remember being a teenager at a youth camp in Louisiana. One of the camp pastors invited several of the youth leaders to his house for a big surprise. It was a phone call from revivalist Leonard Ravenhill (this took place shortly before he passed away). I will never forget the passion of a dying man that came over the speaker phone that day. It was a radical call for a life of prayer and holiness – to sell out completely for Jesus! When he hung up, the impact of his words were so great that the entire room instantly transformed into an intense prayer service. I fell on my face with everyone else and began crying out for more of Jesus. If you have opportunity, I encourage you to listen to some of Leonard’s audio sermons on www.sermonindex.net. They will inspire you to greater intimacy with God!
